Still Here highlights longtime residents as actors in New York City’s historical narrative through their own stories and experiences. The exhibition extends beyond the museum to the streets of the city, presenting residents’ experiences in their original locations.
Visitors download the Still Here app prior to entering the exhibition and receive a wristband when they arrive at the museum. Within the exhibition space, visitors use wristbands to access content and their activity is recorded. The visitor’s activity is used to create a profile that will allow the Still Here app to provide customized content beyond the exhibition space.
The exhibition location spans two galleries on the second floor of the Museum of the City of New York. The first gallery focuses on object-based storytelling in an automat setting. The second gallery focuses on the layers of home within the city for longtime residents.
The exhibition's app-based extended experience is composed of a citywide library of spatial annotations linking longtime residents' stories to their original locations.
